Title | : | Technologies adopted in Diesel Locomotive Engines over Indian Railways |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Suresh D. Mane |
Abstract: Indian Railways operates 12000 trains everyday and half of them are hauled by the diesel locomotives. There are currently two types of locomotives being used over Indian Railways, the four stroke American Locomotive Company locomotives (ALCO) and the two stroke General Motors Electro Motive Division locomotives. There are commonalities as well as differences in these two locomotive engine technologies (EMD).For the past 6 decades ALCO locomotives are serving the nation and past 2 decades EMD locomotives are pressed into service...........

Title | : | Optimizing the process parameters during friction stir welding on AA2024 weld joints using Taguchi method |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Md Mastan Ali || M. S. Srinivasa Rao |
Abstract: FSW (friction stir welding) is a solid state joining technique winch Is use for similar and dissimilar alloys which has been used in defence, aerospace, marine and industires. The AA2024 is a heat treatable alluminum alloy finds wide application in defence and Aerospace due to its high strength to weight ratio. The rotational speed, traverse speed and different tool pin profiles as taper square, taper pentagon, taper hexagon are the parameters taken into consideration to weld 6.4mm of AA2024 thick plate by using AISI H13tool. The tensile strength, yield strength, % of elongation is carried out to know the effect of process parameters on the weld joints, and taguchi method is used to analyse the obtained values. The better value is obtained at rotaional speed 1000rpm, traverse speed 30mm/min. Taguchi method is used to minimize the number of experiments, time and cost.
Keyword--- Analysis of variance, FSW, Tensile strength, yield strength, % of elongation.

Title | : | Nonlinear Vibrations and Buckling Solution for the Uniform Hinged Beam |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Gondi Konda Reddy |
Abstract: Some improvisations, to obtain the closed form nonlinear Eigen solutions, for example solutions for nonlinear free vibrations and nonlinear buckling problems of a hinged beam, which can be solved by following standard and classical energy methods, are proposed. These improvisations simplify the solution procedure of said problem significantly, by providing a logical approach to determine the functional form for the admissible function for the axial displacement, by reducing the number of undetermined coefficients from two(for beam problems with single term admissible to function) one, which is achieved............

Title | : | Experimental Analysis on Incompressible circular and non-circular Fluid Jet through Passive Control Method |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Laxmireddy Peram || Bhaskar Bommera |
Abstract: Fuel mixing, cooling system and chemical mixing is very predominant in automobile industries, pharmaceutical laboratories etc. for the better performance. In an effort to increase mixing tendency, we are planning to control the incompressible fluid flow jets by a passive control method, using vortex generators like Non-Circular cross sections in this paper. The experimental setup with non-circular jet flow and compare with a circular jet flow. Here different geometrical shapes with equivalent area are taken to study the flow. Rectangular models with different aspect ratios studied are L/D = 1 and 2. And these can be compared with the circular orifice of 10 mm diameter. Rectangular model shows significant effect on mixing mechanism

Abstract: In this paper work is carried out on modeling and analysis of compound tool for Vee-Cap component. Vee-cap (Novibra) part, which is used in AC motor, compressor, milling machines, industrial and marine generators, industrial fans, reserve power plants etc. 3D Modeling of the compound tool component is carried out using Solid Edge V19. Structural analysis is carried out using ANSYS 16 for different angles (00, 30, 40, 60 &70) of the component and the tool revel that increasing the tool angle the Stress and Strain are reduced for draw punch, draw tool and component, which gives better performance comparing to other designs...........

Abstract: Friction stir welding process is a modern emerging solid state joining process used to join high strength aluminum metal matrix composite. Friction stir welding produce sound welds in metal matrix composite without any deleterious reaction between matrix and reinforcement. This present work focused to evaluate the effect of process parameters such as welding speed; tool rotational speed and tool geometry on tensile strength of friction stir welded. SiC composite joints. Process parameters were determined by the Taguchi parametric design approach. Result indicated that tool rotation speed, welding speed and tool geometry influence on tensile strength of welded joints

Abstract: The aim of present study is to obtain mathematical expressions for surface pressure and its derivative with respect to Piston Mach number for an oscillating cone. The effects of Mach number and it's geometry on Pressure and its derivative with respect to inertia level and incidence angle, and the results have been obtained. The non-dimensional surface pressure distribution on the cone remain linear for lower angle of incidence and Mach number, however, for higher Mach numbers non-linearity creeps in. For higher Mach number due to viscous-inviscid interaction the flow behaves differently..........

Abstract: Presently we have doped TiO2 nano particles (particle size < 100nm) as N type semiconductor onto P-type organic semiconductor Poly [2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-phenylene vinylene] (MEH-PPV). Numerous P-N junctions are created at the interface of nanoparticle and polymer matrix forming a bulk hetero junction photoactive blend. The donor MEH-PPV polymer matrix is modulated by adding TiO2 nano particles at 3:1, 1:1 and 1:3 weight ratio in Chloro-Benzene (CB) as the solvent and glass-coated nanocomposite films are prepared by solution cast method. The samples are analyzed by JASCO UV Vis NIR V 670 spectrometer. With the increased weight content of TiO2 in the composite.............

Title | : | Analysis of Variation of Stiffness Derivative With Mach Number and Angle of Attack for a Supersonic Flow |
Country | : | Malaysia |
Authors | : | Asha Crasta || Aysha Shabana || Renita Monis || S.A.Khan |
Abstract:In this paper unified supersonic theory is used to derive the expressions of Stiffness derivative of a wedge in Hypersonic flow. This paper demonstrates the effects of pivot position on the stffness derivative with Mach number and incidence angle. From the above discussion it is seen that behaviour of the stiffness derivative is the same for h = 0 to 0.4 and also for h = 0.8, 0.9, and 1.0. Due to the pivot position variations there is a significant variation of Stiffness derivative with Mach number and incidence angle.

Abstract: Study of lid driven cavity problem has long been considered as a testing for Navier-Stokes numerical solvers, and also these problems find more immense industrial applications like short dwell and flexible blade coaters. In this paper, we present a numerical model to study the deep oscillating lid driven cavity problem using staggered grid based finite volume method. In order to capture the fluid dynamic behavior inside the cavity, the continuity and momentum equations are solved, and then the simulations are performed for three different cases of wall oscillation with aspect ratio 2.0. First case is for single wall (top wall oscillation) and the second case is for parallel wall (top and bottom walls oscillation in same direction) and final one is anti-parallel wall...........

Abstract: This work is devoted to investigate the influence of viscous dissipation on the magneto hydro dynamic (MHD) free convection flow of an electrically conducting incompressible viscous fluid over an inclined plate embedded in a porous medium with heat absorption. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved numerically by using Finite element method. With the help of graphs, the effects of the various important parameters entering into the problem on the velocity, temperature and concentration are discussed. The effects of the pertinent parameters on the skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number at the wall are presented numerically in tabular form..............
